Created in 2018, 2018 was a year where I became more confident in creating bigger and bolder art pieces. I went back to my roots namely Litchtenstein and Patrick Caulfield and wanted to create cleaner, simpler art pieces under the Pop Art umbrella.
Inspired by a Litchtenstein Lady I wanted to prove to myself that I could create recognisable art rather than just doodle inspired pieces. This is a stripped back version which I then use as a basis to create a series under the Lady’s Day series.

Stripped back and bare to represent our natural beauty. If we look at ourselves and take away the outer beauty layers, take away the make up who are we? We are still beautiful and wonderful individuals. This is what I wanted to celebrate a stripped back beauty in simple shape and form.
The hats in this series depict the different faces and images personalities we pick for ourselves. One could say our public face. How despite the props of changing our exterior and adding colour we still retain our individuality and our inner beauty despite the add ons. I also wanted to celebrate eclectic, fun, fashion and design of London. This series celebrates fashion and our individual selves. Each hat in this series has been carefully created as a separate piece of art. Filled with doodle love and imaginative colourings and freedom. When I started putting this series together I immediately thought of the races and Lady’s Day hence the name for this series and piece.
This piece is made up of two original art pieces which have been drawn separately and then added together to create a collage on a collage of art. Firstly the colourful hat. I’d created a bird like piece of art and I had fun adding design and lots of colour to the body including a detailed large black eye. When I started playing around with it I decided to cut it up and save it for something else….the something else came with this piece. The second piece of art is the lady itself which si from my Lady’s No Hat Day illustration.
