Created March 2019 as a piece of graffiti art on the walls of Leake Street, London (spray paint.)
As my voice has become stronger and I've become freer with my emotions and my feelings, I've switched to using spray painting and paint as a means of expression which I've discovered allows me to bring my art to life. Spray paint and paint has become my current medium of choice as I look to create larger artworks.
This piece was created during the same session as the Apple Art, Thinking Heads, and Picasso’s 1st Dance with Emin. As you’ll see it’s an extension of Picasso’s 1st Dance.
This piece was inspired by a number of exhibitions I had seen at the time (Tracey Emin: A Fortnight of Tears, Dorethea Tanning, Picasso’s 3 Dancers'). When I viewed these exhibitions I realised that it was fine not to be exact and perfect that the beauty of the art came from the energy, the feeling and freedom to be able to create. The beauty came from the emotion and feeling that was left with the viewer. (I always leave with butterflies when I walk away from Picasso’s 3 Dancers. Each and every time I grow more attached to the piece.)
So having been inspired to be freer with my creativity I let go and just focused on the idea rather than the execution.
I wanted to create "fine art" pieces for the outside inspired by the feminine form rather than stick to the typical graffiti style of artwork that I view on the streets. Taking art from the gallery and bringing this form of surrealist humanism to the streets. I tend to create a feminine human form which is along a very simple abstract line, focusing on what is going on internally and the flow of the piece. I always tend to reference lips, eyes, and the heart as part of that process.
My focus for this session was a simple colour pallet and to just let my energy and enthusiasm flow through the piece. Having become more confident in myself, and in my voice I just went for it. I added the three sets of eyes which represent our internal perspective, our inner guide and inner voice. To be connected to our spiritual side enables me to feel truly whole and complete.
Capturing the energetic flow on the arms and legs in a very primitive manner, I love this piece. Be it animal instinct or a sense of free fall I enjoyed creating this piece.
